Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket plot change paragraph

In the story Dead Man's Pocket a man named Tom Beneke loses a yellow paper and decides to make a decision to go get it.If I could change the plot I would make him not go after it.I say this because you could just make another paper.If you made another one you could of still got a raise but instead he risk his life trying to get it.To me that is not smart.I understand if he had a project that like took a week or sobut a paper he could of pulled a all nighter had it turned in thew next morning.This is what would choose if I could change the plot.
